Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do Rental Calendar and Rental Guestbook work?

A. Rental Calendar and Guestbook are designed to help owners of vacation and second homes schedule the rental of their properties, and to let prospective renters easily and conveniently check availability.

The Calendar displays free and booked dates, with rates, up to 18 months in advance, in an attractive pop-up window that doesn’t take prospective renters away from your property’s web page.

The Guestbook enhances your home’s cachet by allowing prospective renters to read comments by people who have vacationed there. It displays in an elegant pop-up window.

Both services are completely FREE. They can be linked to all sites advertising your property, either with an icon or a text link, and you may sign up as many properties as you wish.

Q. Great! What does it cost?

A. Nothing. Both Rental Calendar and Rental Guestbook are completely FREE. There’s no catch. No strings attached. No hidden costs.

Q. How do I register?

A. Just click on “Sign Me Up!” on the home page, fill in the blanks and pick a password. You will promptly receive an email directing you to the “Activate My Account” page. Fill in the blanks with some basic information about each property. You will be assigned an ID for each property, and given icons so you can link to the Rental Calendar and Guestbook directly from the sites on which you advertise your properties. It’s that simple!

Q. Is there any limit to how many properties I can sign up for free Guestbooks and Calendars?

A. No! Sign up as many as you like.

Q. How do I get the Calendar and Guestbook services attached to my web site?

A. This is easy! All you have to do is remember your property id so that you can include it into the following lines of html code that can be inserted into any web page.

The code for displaying your calendar is:
<a href = http://www.rentalcalendar.com/cal/?p=x>My property’s availability calendar</a>
Where x = your property’s id assigned by the system

The code for displaying your guestbook is:
<a href = http://www.rentalcalendar.com/gb/?p=x>My property’s guestbook</a>
Where x = your property’s id assigned by the system

Q. How do I update my Calendar?

A. It’s easy! Log in to RentalCalendar.com (we suggest you add it to your “favorites” list) using your email address and the password you created. Click on the Property ID# for the Calendar you want to update. OR click “Edit my Calendar” on your property’s homepage, which will take you to the same place.

Next, follow the simple instructions for marking occupied dates or freeing up open dates. The Calendar lets you block by time periods -- weekend, week or month – so you don’t have the tedious job of checking off individual boxes for each day. Enjoy the convenience!

NOTE: You check a property as “occupied” if someone is staying there that night. So check-in day counts as an OCCUPIED night, while the day of checkout counts as an UNOCCUPIED night. We suggest you never check a night as occupied until you have a deposit or payment in hand.

Q. Can anyone but me edit my Calendar or Guestbook?

A. No! All data has to go through you, using your email address and the password you selected.

Q. How do renters submit comments to the Guestbook?

A. A stylish Guestbook icon will show up on your property’s website. Renters who have stayed in your home can click on it, type in a few comments, and press submit! (We suggest you prompt them by sending a follow-up email after their vacation, with a link to the Guestbook.) They will be prompted to provide the date and their name and hometown, and how they rate your home. Their comments will be emailed to you for screening; if you approve, press SUBMIT and they will be added to the Guestbook.

There’s no limit to how many comments you can display in your Guestbook.

Q. What if a renter has a negative comment?

A. You screen all comments before they appear on your web site. You may choose not to display a negative comment on your Guestbook.

Q. How do I enter comments from people who have signed the paper Guestbook in my home, or mailed me their feedback?

A. The “Homeowner Comments” option lets you type these comments in.

Q. How do renters read the Guestbook?

A. They simply click on the Guestbook icon and read the comments in a small pop-up window.

Q. I forgot my password or my email address. How do I log in?

A. If you forgot your password, you can request it by email by clicking “I forgot my password” on the home page of RentalCalendar.com.

Q. What is Rental Calendar.com going to do with my personal information?

A. Your information will be used to keep you updated about any expansion or new features at RentalCalendar.com. We do NOT sell email or snail mail addresses to advertisers. You can read our complete privacy statement at www.rentalcalendar.com/privacy.php.
